Hopes for a strong farm output are rising after better sowing of rice and soybean crops, as the monsoon has reached most parts of India and the amount of rainfall until now is within expectations.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the cumulative monsoon rains have been 2% below average since June until July 9. But the recent rains in the week to July 5 have been heavier as the seasonal showers were 21% above average.

The farm segment which is highly dependent on good rainfall employs more than half of India's 1.3 billion people and sums for about 15% of India's USD 2 trillion economy.

IMD in June has raised its monsoon forecast by 2 percentage points to 98% of the long-term average
